CLINICAL OBSERVATION OF JAPANESE B ENCEPHALITIS AND OF THE EFFECT OF HYPOTHERMIA, DURING THE EPIDEMIC OF 1964

Abstract
In the Summer of 1964, 82 cases of Japanese Bencephalitis were observed clinically and treated with hypothermia at Taegu Presbyterian hospital.
Of this number there was a mortality rate of 14. 6% and in 14.2% there were sequelae.
In their clinical course the average length of hospitalization was 7.6 days and the shortest period was 3 days.
In older age children of upper classes the prognosis was poorer than in younger children and those from lower income group.
There was little correlation between the prognosis and the time interval from onset to admission or between prognosis and the C.S.F. cell count
